Protection of lakes and waters

Stockholm Vatten not only produces drinking water and treats wastewater, but also works toward the protection and restoration of lakes and waterways. 
 

Our wish is that the water in Stockholm shall be of satisfactory quality and for the water districts to be attractive recreation areas for everyone. 
 
Stockholm Vatten monitors the state of a number of lakes and waterways in Stockholm by sample-taking and different measures to improve the quality of the water.
 

Stockholm’s water program

Stockholm has an official program for water operations that states how the city is to apply the framework directive for water that the European Union has set for 2015. The two main objectives for Stockholm are:
  • The water in Stockholm shall be of satisfactory quality
  • The water districts in Stockholm shall be attractive recreation areas for everyone
